Phnom Penh៖ The Metfone Cambodian League is set to return next month, and team training has been allowed since Monday this week. NagaWorld captain Kouch Sokumpheak raised his main concern on players’ energy as they had not trained together for two months.
The Cambodia international midfielder is, however, hopeful that his side will get fit on time for the return of Cambodia’s top flight.
Kouch Sokumpheak told camsports.org: “It’s a tough first week for us, but hopefully we keep improving in the next few weeks. Our energy is not back to 100 per cent yet as we hadn’t trained for a long time. We, actually, had individual training from home, but it wasn’t so effective as training with the team. It’s a main issue for us, so we need more time.
“A period of one month to prepare a team again ahead of the re-start of the league isn’t much. We had individual training during the league suspension, but now we are doing team training to get our energy and fitness back. One month, anyway, should be fine for us.
“Yes, surely it affects our form and energy as we had not played or trained together for many weeks. We have around one month to train together, and we will work hard ahead of the return of football.”
Kouch Sokumpheak also shared his opinion on the return of football during the Covid-19 crisis.
He added: “Of course, I’m a bit worried about our safety to play during the Covid-19 crisis, but I believe the Football Federation of Cambodia has full attention on our safety. The clubs have strictly applied the medical instruction, and individual player also tries to follow instruction. In general, it’s not a big worry for us.”
