Phnom Penh៖ Former NagaWorld full-back Teat Sokha has claimed that the players nowadays are much luckier than those during his generation as they get good wage and play on a better pitch with a lot of supporters at the stadium.

Teat Sokha joined NagaWorld in 2009 and helped the club clinch the Cambodian League title in his first season with them. He also won the Hun Sen Cup with NagaWorld in 2013 before retiring from professional football in 2016.

Teat Sokha told camsports.org: “The players these days are very lucky. They can get high salary, and it’s unlike during my generation as we got low paid. The condition is now far better than during my time as a player. The pitch, salary, and materials are all good for players because our football is getting better and better.

“During my time as a player, we had a big problem with the pitch. We used only two stadiums such as the National Stadium and Army Stadium for all the league matches. The pitch was flooded whenever it rained, so it was very hard for players.

“Now there are more and more fans who support the clubs in Cambodia’s top flight, but in the past we had no more than 200 fans for each league match as not many people liked football at that time.

“To the players at this generation, you need to sacrifice to become a professional player. You need to take care of your health and get rid of alcohol. More importantly, don’t go out at night a lot.”
