Phnom Penh៖ Cambodia have announced the 25-man squad for the FIFA World Cup qualifiers second round as they welcome Hong Kong in their opening Group C match at the National Olympic Stadium on September 5.

The KoupreyBlues defeated Pakistan twice in the first round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers to secure a 4-1 aggregate win that saw them progress to the second round, where they have been grouped alongside Hong Kong, Bahrain, Iran, and Iraq.

Cambodia hotshot Chan Vathanaka remains exclusion from the squad as he didn’t receive the call-up during Cambodia’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers first round campaign, with Cambodia reaching the second round without the service of the Boeung Ket striker.

Meanwhile, Sou Yaty is welcomed back to the national team squad, with the Nagaworld goalkeeper expected to start ahead of Keo Soksela, who started in Cambodia’s double wins over Pakistan in the first round of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Dav Nim, who has scored thirteen Cambodian League goals for Kirivong Sok Sen Chey in his first season in Cambodia’s top flight, is another interesting name to make it in the final squad.

Cambodia may have a much younger squad than Hong Kong, who defeated them 2-0 in the international friendly match at the National Olympic Stadium few years ago, but they are committed to having a good start with the support from several thousands of their fans.
