Phnom Penh៖ The Metfone Cambodian League is set to resume early next month with the introduction of several new rules, and Conor Nestor believes allowing five substitutes will help the team.
Cambodian top tier was suspended over two months due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and group training was restricted to fight against the Covid-19 crisis.
The Cambodian National Competitions Committee has recently announced that the Metfone Cambodian League can resume on 4 and 5 July, meaning that the clubs will have around one month to prepare their team as training in group has been allowed since Monday last week.
The Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng coach said a period of one month to prepare the team again is not enough, but insists that it’s important to finish the league.
Conor Nestor told camsports.org: “It’s not enough, but it’s necessary to get the league finished. FIFA’s rule about having 5 substitutes will be helpful in building fitness for the whole team again.
“Training has been good, and we are very happy to be back doing what we love. We have been working hard throughout the restricted period just in smaller groups to comply with regulations. In many respects, our pre-season has been done already – except for the part of pre-season where you play games. We are hoping to play a lot of games in this period for match sharpness.”
