Phnom Penh៖ Aim Sovannarath is ambitious to defend the Metfone Cambodian League title with Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng this season after Cambodia’s top flight has received a green light to resume, with matches played behind the closed doors.
The Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng goalkeeper admitted that he gains more weight during the league suspension as training in group was not allowed.
The Metfone Cambodian League clubs are allowed to have a team training today, and Aim Sovannarath is committed to getting back in shape before the re-start of the league.
Aim Sovannarath told camsports.org: “We didn’t train for a long time, so it can affect our form. We have just started training after receiving permission from the ministry. To be honest, I gain some weight, but I will work hard to get my fitness back.
“It’s great news to re-start the Metfone Cambodian League, and I’m sure the government is working hard to ensure the safety before allowing football to return. As a professional player, I do miss the games, so it is great to be back on the pitch again soon.
“Of course, it’s not so good to play without fans. As you know, we play and work hard for our fans, so it’s a difficult situation. Anyway, you need to follow the government’s decision for our safety concern. For whatever, the fans can support us from home, meaning that they can follow our games on the Facebook live and on TV.
“We will train strong to defend our league title this season, and I think we will have enough time to focus on the league as the AFC Cup has not resumed yet. We will prepare a good team to clinch another league title this season.”
