Phnom Penh៖ Jonathan Campbell is hopeful that the Metfone Cambodian League will resume soon, but insists that following the government’s decision and instruction from the Ministry of Health is mandatory as he believes that nothing is above life.
The Metfone Cambodian League has been suspended due to the Coronavirus pandemic after Week 5, but the Ministry of Health has recently reported that no new positive cases for almost a month and that 121 of 122 patients have recovered.
With the current improvement of the Coronavirus situation, everyone associated with football is looking forward to the permission from Cambodia’s government to resume football.
Jonathan Campbell told camsports.org: “I think everyone has their different opinions, but I believe it should resume to give people football entertainment even behind the closed doors. Of course, precautionary measures will have to be strictly enforced, which will hopefully protect players, staff, fans, etc. I, however, support the government’s decisions. Whatever they decide, because they have the professional guidance from the Ministry of Health or whatever, and I believe that the health and safety of everyone are the top priority.
“I think as professional footballers during this time, everyone should be staying as fit as they can. Then all you need to do is regain your game fitness, technique, etc. We have been working hard the entire pandemic, so whenever the league decides to resume, we will be ready for it mentally and physically.
“My condition was very good, but recently I’ve had a slight injury, so now I’m not so sure. At Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng, we have all been very disciplined in continuing to train from home so that we are ready for when the league continues. We have a lot of very ambitious players who can’t wait for the league to return.”
