Phnom Penh៖ Pov Ponvuthy admitted that it’s quite hard for him to challenge for a place in Phnom Penh Crown’s starting XI as a striker as this position is occupied by foreign strikers the like of Timothy Okereke and Paulo Victor.
The youngster is ready to switch his role to another position that is required by coach Sum Vanna to get more playing time in the Metfone Cambodian League.
The Red Singha should be in need of a full-back following the departure of Seng Kosen, whose contract was terminated in February, and Pov Ponvuthy is ready to fill in this place if required.
The 22-year-old made four Metfone Cambodian League appearances as a substitute in Phnom Penh Crown’s opening five matches this season.
Pov Ponvuthy told camsports.org: “I’m fine with it, and I will change the position to where is required by my coach. I will try to adjust myself to the need of the team.
“If the coach asks me to switch my role to left-back or right-back, I think I can play because five years ago I trained and played as a full-back.
“It’s quite hard to earn a regular place in the starting XI, so I can play as a full-back if the coach needs me to do that. I want to play in either position as a full-back or striker. I mean I can play in both roles.
“It’s quite hard for me to challenge for a place as a striker in the Metfone Cambodian League, but the coach usually plays me in this role in the Hun Sen Cup.”
