Phnom Penh៖ Conor Nestor hopes Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng will play better on the return leg against Master7 despite a convincing 4-1 win against the Lao side in the first leg of the AFC Cup play-off.
Braces from Hoy Phallin and Privat saw the Champions of Cambodia snatch a massive win on their AFC Cup debut, while Souley Mane scored an away goal for Master7.
The Svay Rieng side gave away several free-kicks around their box, and Conor Nestor thinks his side need to fix it ahead of the second leg tie in Laos on January 29.
The Irish coach told camsports.org: “I think it’s a big result although it’s only half time in our tie, but I’m not so sure about the performance. I think we can play better, and when we go to Laos, we will have to play better.
“In some ways, it was too entertaining. I like us to entertain by controlling the game and play good football. Last night, we played too many long balls, and a lot of entertainment came from Master7’s counter atttacks. We need to improve on that.
“Anyone who watches top level football will have seen teams like Barcelona and PSG throwing away big leads. We are a hard-working team, but also a humble team, so we won’t be getting carried away. Next week, we start the game as if it’s 0-0 again.
“Wether we are too strong or not the reality is Master7 created 3/4 chances today, and we gave away too many set pieces around our box, so we need to improve this.”
