Phnom Penh៖ Chan Vathanaka can still prove himself as a top striker in Cambodia after he returned to Boeung Ket with a bang in the second round of last season.
The Cambodia international striker signed a long-term contract with Boeung Ket, where he won the Metfone Cambodian League title back in 2016, after he was released by Malaysian outfit PKNS just after the first round of the Malaysia Super League.
The 25-year-old went on to score eighteen goals for Boeung Ket in all competitions and played a big part in Boeung Ket clinching their first Hun Sen Cup as they defeated Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng on penalty shootouts in the final.
He also won three different awards including top local scorer, best XI in the Hun Sen Cup, and best XI in the Metfone Cambodian League that were announced during the Cambodian Football Award on Saturday night.

Back in 2017, he moved abroad to try his luck with overseas club after he helped Boeung Ket secure their second league title and joined three different foreign clubs in three successive seasons.
His career at overseas clubs, however, wasn’t as green as it was at Boeung Ket as he spent almost his whole season on the bench at Fujieda MYFC of Japan’s third tier and was released by Pahang and PKNS after the first round of the season in 2018 and 2019, respectively.

Boeung Ket general manager Be Makara has delivered the best news for the club’s supporters via camsports.org as he confirmed that Chan Vathanaka will remain at the club for this upcoming season.
“Yes, of course there are some overseas clubs that show their interests in Chan Vathanaka, but he turns down the offers. He still has a contract with [Boeung Ket] and wants to play in Cambodia,” said the Boeung Ket general manager.
“He will remain at the club as he still has a two-year contract with us. He is a very important player, but at the same time every player is very important for us.
“He is not at his best yet because of injury, but hopefully he will be at his peak again this upcoming season.”
