‘It’s a great honour’ – Conor Nestor on winning the best coach and most popular coach awards

Phnom Penh៖ Conor Nestor won two awards as the best coach in the Metfone Cambodian League and the most popular coach of the season after the Irish guided Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng to their second league title.
Last season was Conor Nestor’s second season as the head coach of the Svay Rieng side in Cambodia, where he regards as his home through the warmth he has received from Cambodia’s local supporters.
“As a foreigner to win the the best coach in the Metfone Cambodian League and also the most popular coach award is a great honour,” Conor Nestor told camsports.org.
“I must thank my bosses for trusting me, staff for their help, our players for their sacrifice, and our supporters for giving us power every day. For the most popular coach award, I would really like to thank the Cambodian football family for making me feel at home in Cambodia.
“I think what it means is I am the lucky one who is surrounded by good people, but is also nice to feel the warmth of the Cambodian people. This is my home now, and I want to contribute to the game here.
“It was nearly a perfect season, but as the coach it’s my job to focus on the nearly part, which means our final two games where we fell short.
“I believe the best has yet to come with these players, but I know there will be opposition to us achieving that. As a club, we relish this challenge.”
