Phnom Penh៖ Met Samel put Cambodia U19 in front with a sixteenth-minute strike that he dedicated to his nation and all Cambodia fans in a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Thailand U19.
Three points from last night’s incredible win over Thailand U19 pushes Cambodia U19 to second place in Group G of the AFC U19 Championship qualifiers, with Malaysia U19 occupying the top spot of the group.
Host Cambodia U19 will need nothing but three points from their conclusion Group G match against Brunei U19 to likely qualify to the final round, which is Met Samel’s dream.
The midfielder told camsports.org: “I’m so happy to score for Cambodia U19, and the goal is for our flag, our team, and especially our Cambodian people.
“Before the game, many people wrote us off. They underestimated us, and they said we wouldn’t be able to beat Thailand U19. That’s fine – that’s Ok. We didn’t care of what they said. We only focused and prepared our team to beat Thailand U19.
“Our target is to go through the final round of the AFC U19 Championship. I have targeted it since two years ago, when I played for Cambodia U16.
“I hope this time we are able to reach the next round of the tournament.”
