Phnom Penh៖ Cambodia U19 snatched the points they needed following a hard-fought 2-1 win over Thailand U19 in Group G of the AFC U19 Championship qualifiers.

A perfect first-half performance saw Cambodia U19 brought a two-goal lead into the interval, with the goals coming through Met Samel and captain Sieng Chanthea.

Thailand U19 created momentum inside ten minutes of the play, with a low effort from Warakorn denied by Tha Chanrithy before Thirapak shot wide over the bar.

With sixteen minutes on the clock, Met Samel put Cambodia U19 in front as he picked up a perfect long ball from Sao Vaify before sending the ball into the net.

Ten minutes later, Sieng Chanthea created a moment of magic as he edged past Songchai and Natcha before slotting home Cambodia U19’s second goal of the tie.

Cambodia U19 looked even more threatening after leading by two goals, with Sieng Chanthea’s efforts saved by Thirawooth.

Sieng Chanthea was close to bag another goal early into the second half, but his low strike was tipped away and hit the post.

Cambodia U19’ neat defense made Thailand U19’s attack toothless, with the long-range efforts from Channarong and Natcha off target.

Channarong put Thailand U19 back into the match with a fantastic low effort to pull one goal back with ten minutes remaining.

Cambodia U19 applied a defensive approach to maintain their lead, and that worked pretty well as they claimed all three points with a narrow 2-1 victory to keep their dream of advancing to the final round of the tournament alive.

The young KoupreyBlues face Brunei U19 in their conclusion match of Group G.
