Mon Vannda: I feel great to make history at Boeung Ket

Phnom Penh៖ Boeung Ket clinched their first Hun Sen Cup after they defeated Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng 5-4 on penalty shootouts at the Smart RSN Stadium on Wednesday night after both sides played out a 1-1 draw till extra times.
Hao Socheat’s side scored five from their six penalties, and Hul Kimhuy denied the shots from Sok Samnang and Hoy Phalin to help Boeung Ket beat Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng 5-4.
Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng dominated the match, but it’s Boeung Ket that broke the deadlock just two minutes into the second half thanks to Mon Vannda’s thumping header from Chea Vesly’s brilliant cross.
In the seventy-first minute of the tie, Nub Tola drew Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng level from the penalty spot, with Sath Rosib sent off following a straight red card after the Cambodia international full-back committed a handball inside his own box.
Mon Vannda, who stunned Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng with a perfect header, is proud of himself after writing his name in Boeung Ket’s history as he helped the club clinch their first Hun Sen Cup.
Mon Vannda, who scored four goals this Hun Sen Cup campaign, told camsports.org: “It’s a very hard game for us, but we went into the game with commitment and intention to win the game.
“We know Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng is a great team, but we are confident that we could do it.
“My goal in the second half is a great one, and it’s unbelievable as Preah Khan Reach Svay Rieng put much pressure on us. We didn’t create a lot of chances, so when we created a chance, I took it well. It’s a great goal.
“I’m very proud of the team and myself as it is my first trophy as a professional player. I feel great as I am a part of the team to make history for the club because we never won it before.
“I have so much faith in the team that we can make history after we defeated Visakha. I’m confident too as the training made me feel comfortable and improve.”
