Felix Dalmas noticed the team improvement during Cambodia’s 4-0 loss to Iraq at the National Olympic Stadium last night as it is the KoupreyBlues’s third defeat from their four Group C matches of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers second round.
Two goals from each half saw Iraq run out easy 4-0 winners against host Cambodia. Ibrahim Bayesh and Mohanad Ali scored to help Iraq bring a 2-goal lead into the half-time break, and second half goals from Amjad Attwan and Ahmad Al-Gafaje hand the Visitors a comfortable three points.
Despite conceding fourteen goals against Iran and four against Iraq in Cambodia’s last two Group C matches, the Cambodia coach is still proud of his team performance after stating that his players had strictly followed his plan.
Speaking to last night’s post-match press conference, the Argentinian said: “We improved a lot of things, but there’re a lot more to improve. We know they wanted it a physical game, and our plan was clear. We need to do better to improve our passing and make good decision, and it’s not easy especially against such a strong team.
“It’s really nice that we can measure ourselves against a strong team. It gives us a motivation to make improvement. I’m proud that our players gave 100 per cent and everything they had.
“Looking ahead, we will analyse the game and keep on improvement and keep going. Our players tried to follow our plan for ninety minutes. We had the ball, and we had some chances.
“We faced two tough teams in a row, and I hope we will be able to perform better against Hong Kong. This is the second time that Cambodia have reached this stage. I can’t wait for the next few games.
“Our goal is to take Cambodia to the next step. We strongly believe in our players who are here, and something that I want to say to the fans is that the players are doing their best. We really appreciate.
“Even though the result is not what we wanted, we try to make football that people enjoy to watch because this is all for the fans.”
