Phnom Penh: Cambodia suffered their third defeat from four Group C matches in the second round of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers as they went down 4-0 at home against Iraq, who easily took control of tonight’s match.

A completely half-time dominant performance saw Iraq bring a 2-0 lead into the break thanks to double headers from Bayesh and Ali.

Iraq pressed hard since the first minute of the contest as Tariq’s bicycle kick was denied by Cambodia goalkeeper Soksela Keo before Chanpolin Orn’s volley was saved by Hameed.

Few minutes later, Tariq’s low effort from the right angle inside Cambodia’s penalty box went wide, with Al-Qafaje’s header denied by the post. With their physical advantage, Iraq’s aerial balls were very effective. Tariq headed wide over the bar from Adnan’s cross.

With twenty-two minutes gone, Bayesh put Iraq in front through a lovely header, but five minutes later Sokpheng Keo was close to equalize for Cambodia, but his low effort was denied by Hameed.

Just four minutes before the break, Ali doubled Iraq’s lead with a well-placed header from Adnan’s cross.

Cambodia’s best chance of the match came in on the forty-eighth minute when Sokpheng Keo’s effort deflected by Naji hit the post before Hameed collected the ball.

Iraq bagged two quick goals in a period of five minutes, with the goals coming through Attwan’s rocket strike and Al-Gafaje’s brilliant header to help Iraq snatch a convincing 4-0 win over Cambodia.
