Phnom Penh៖ Cambodia were handed their first defeat in the Group C of the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers second round as Al Aswad’s second half volley helped Bahrain secure a hard-earned three points.

With sixteen minutes on the clock, Chheng Meng made a lovely cross, but Keo Sokpheng failed to head the ball before Al Husaini’s dangerous cross was cleared by Cambodia left-back Chheng Meng.

Cambodia goalkeeper Keo Soksela jumped high to tip the ball over the bar from Al Hayam’s cross, and then Al Husaini broke into Cambodia’s dangerous box and sent a low cross that couldn’t meet Al Aswad.

Bahrain created momentum in the last ten minutes of the thrilling first-half, but Helal and Al Husaini failed to capitalize on the chances they created.

Striker Helal saw his effort saved by Keo Soksela before making a brilliant dribble into Cambodia’s box, but he was blocked by Cambodia center-back Ouk Sovann before Al Husaini collected the ball and fired an effort saved by Keo Soksela.

With three minutes remaining before the half-time break, Al Husaini headed the ball that bounced with the pitch and went off target. Haram failed to hit the ball into the net as he was not quick enough to meet the ball from a low cross in the stoppage time.

Bahrain took advantage from Cambodia’s tiredness in the second half and created a number of chances, with the early efforts from Al Husaini and Isa denied by Keo Soksela, who was also forced to pull the ball away from Isa’s header.

Bahrain’s hard work paid off in the seventy-eighth minute when Al Aswad’s volley deflected by Ouk Sovann before hitting the back of the net to snatch all three points in a hard-fought 1-0 victory over host Cambodia.
