Phnom Penh៖ Cambodia face Hong Kong in their opening Group C match of the FIFA World Cup qualifiers second round at the National Olympic Stadium as Felix Dalmas regards tomorrow’s match as a big challenge for Cambodia.

The KoupreyBlues coach pointed out that ball possession and confidence are keys for a tough clash with Hong Kong, who have better physical advantage as Cambodia were also beaten 2-0 in the international friendly match at home in their last meeting with Hong Kong.

Speaking to the pre-match press conference, Felix Dalmas said: “We feel as we do in every game. It’s a great challenge and exciting to compete against a great team. Hopefully, it will be a great match for the fans to watch. Usually, the opposition teams have bigger players than us. For example, Pakistan have a lot of tall players as well.

“Our idea is the same. We want to keep the ball. We will play our ways, so it won’t change. We always want to take initiatives, be brave, and propose the football we want to play. Hong Kong is a very strong and competitive team, and many their players are very good. We have our plan and ways to play our football.”

The Argentinian also explained his reasons for the exclusion of Chan Vathanaka from the Cambodia National Team, while Kirivong Sok Sen Chey striker Dav Nim, who has scored thirteen Cambodian League goals this season, has been included in the squad.

The 31-year-old said: “We consider all players, and we consider what they are doing on and off the field. I hope he [Chan Vathanaka] can be part of the team. Maybe next game, he can be part of the team. Right now, many players are doing very well, and I have also explained that it’s a group of 23 players that is very important for us.

“Dav Nim is doing very well and working really hard, so that’s why he is here. We value and appreciate that, and we want to give him a chance to adapt and see how he can work with the other national team players.

“We need players who are committed to being here and have passion to play for the team. This is the number 1 priority for us. The players we have in the list have all of those qualities.

“The 23 players in the national team squad are working very hard to bring the supporters happiness and enjoyment. Hopefully, they [supporters] can enjoy even though their favorite players are not with the team.

“The colors and the flag are above everything else.”
